This Month’s Third Sunday Concert will Offer a Unique Combination of Music and Text

The next event in the Third Sunday Series of concerts presented by Paul Ellison, Music Director at the Church of the Advent of Christ the King, will depart from the usual conventions of chamber music recitals. The featured artist will be soprano Christine Springer; but she will be joined by Daniel Pociernicki, who will serve as a narrator. The program will be a reading of the children’s book The Littlest Angel by Charles Tazewell. This book was first published in 1946 and is now among the top twenty best-selling children’s stories of all time (or at least since the inception of the modern publishing industry).

Pociernicki will read the book in its entirety, and musical interludes will be inserted at appropriate stages in the progress of the narrative. Details about those interludes have not yet been announced. However, Springer will be joined by three instrumentalists, Pasquale Bianculli on guitar, Kathleen McDonald on flute, and Brian Swager on harp.

The Church of the Advent of Christ the King is located at 261 Fell Street, between Franklin Street and Gough Street. The entry is diagonally across the street from the SFJAZZ Center. As usual, the performance will begin at 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 18. A festive reception will follow the performance in Lathrop Hall. All concerts are free, but a donation of $20 will be greatly appreciated.
